TW_Bunker

TW_Bunker is a large deathmatch level designed for 8 to 16 players.

This was my 1st level created for The Wastes. The setting is an old military supplies depot up high in the mountainous regions of America. I really wanted to show a location tortured by time, rusting metal and crumbling concrete.

People often find levels set around military bases to be rather boring so I tried to keep each area interesting and different, but keep a common theme, much like the repeating corridor shape.

I thought sound was even more important on this map than a cityscape as people can easily identify with something that looks like a real place. I didn't want people to think "Just another military base". That’s why I made sure to use lots of ambient sounds, from the creaks of this decaying building to the deep chugging of the old generators and the howling wind along the cliff edge.

The real inspiration came from having new textures to play with. You can only use the same old Half-Life 1 textures for so long before getting bored.
